In the presence of bone defects in edentulous areas, the use of dental implants can be impossible or or may determine inappropriate positioning.

Among the different bone regeneration procedures (such as GBR, bone grafting, sinus lift in association with bone regeneration) , the so called protected regeneration with customized titanium meshes has demonstrated to be a safe and reliable procedure to augment bone volumes of alveolar ridges.

Aim of this masterclass lecture will be to present rational protocols in order to optimize the clinical outcome of this particualr type of bone regeneration procedure.

In particular, the following issues will be addressed:

• How to plan a clinical case in need of bone augmentation according to the PGR principle (Prosthetically Guided Regeneration).
• The role of digital technologies and the digital workflow for the production of customized titanium meshes.
• Step-by-step phases of the surgical procedure, including bone harvesting, releasing incisions, mesh manipulation and fixation, et cetera).
• Timing of implant placement after the regeneration procedure.
• Management of soft tissue before and after the regeneration.
• The prosthetic rehabilitation.
• The prevention and management of complications following protected regeneration.
